Brilliant coloratura soprano Vedrana Kalas presents “Rooted,” a moving program shaped by heritage and resilience. Honoring her own life’s journey, Kalas combines folk-inspired songs by Ravel and Dvořák with music of former Yugoslav composers and selections from Marcella Sembrich’s vast repertoire.  Pianist Michael Clement accompanies her.

Kalas is a native of war-torn Bosnia, from where she emigrated as a teenager with her family. She graduated from Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam with honors and has gone on to a distinguished career on concert and opera stages.

Clement is a frequent performer of chamber music in concert venues throughout the Northeast. He currently serves as a staff accompanist and repertoire coach at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY.
