BOLTON LANDING, NY —  The Sembrich’s World Music Wednesday series gets underway on Wednesday, July 12th at 1:30 pm with the rapturous, sultry strains of the Raul Jaurena Quartet in a program of selections from the 2007 Latin Grammy award-winning album “Te Amo Tango” (“I Love Tango”).  Tickets are $20.  Reservations are strongly recommended.

Raul Jaurena, master of the Tango, is among today’s most prominent performers of the bandoneon, a button accordion essential to any tango ensemble.

His music plays a very personal tribute to the influences of his native South America and his adopted hometown of New York, combining the traditional roots of the tango and the style of the “Tango Nuevo” influenced by composer Astor Piazzolla.

Jaurena will be joined onstage by internationally-acclaimed Venezuelan singer Marga Mitchell and violinist Daniel Szasz, concertmaster of the Lake Placid Sinfonietta. Pianist Emiliano Messies and bass player Pablo Lanouguere round out the ensemble.

The program includes a number of works by Astor Piazzolla, including his ever-popular “Libertango,” original tango compositions by Jaurena and several selections featuring vocalist Mitchell.

Over the years, Jaurena has performed with Cuban Jazz saxophone player Paquito D’Rivera, Yo Yo Ma, Giora Feidman, Tango Five, among many others. As a soloist, he has appeared with prominent ensembles and orchestras throughout Europe and has had great success with his show Tango & Tango at the Ravinia Festival in Chicago.

In his review of “Te Amo Tango,” All About Jazz writer Samuel Chell states: “Raul Jaurena…is likely to win more than a few converts to the tango with this richly expressive, expertly produced session.”
