The Silver Bay String Quartet brings a concert of classics to The Sembrich, highlighted by a performance of one Dvorak’s most beloved chamber pieces– the Quintet for Strings and Piano, Op. 81 in A Major, featuring pianist Olga Guerevich.   This exciting work offers a glimpse into the world of Dvorak’s Bohemia with its soaring melodies and lively folk rhythms.  Also included on the program are a transcription of Dvorak’s “Songs My Mother Taught Me” (a work popularized by Sembrich on her song recitals) and Puccini’s beautiful elegy “Chrysanthemums.”

The Silver Bay String Quartet was originally founded in 1939 and serves in residence each summer at the nearby Silver Bay Association.  The members are Meredith Arksey, violin 1; Padua Canty, violin 2; Susan Bengtson, viola; and Andrea Chandler, cello.

Puccini, pleased by Sembrich’s endearing portrayal of the heroine from his opera “La Boheme,” wrote to the soprano: “You are THE Mimi!”
