Piano virtuoso Christopher Johnson commemorates the 100th Anniversary of the WWI Armistice with his most challenging program yet!  Each of the three countries that signed the Armistice will be represented (Germany, France and England) by some of their finest musical exports.  The hauntingly bellicose Rhapsody and beautifully tranquil Intermezzo by Brahms (a great admirer of Marcella Sembrich) make a suitable opening.

The first half of the program will conclude with Ravel’s towering achievement for solo piano — the complete Le tombeau de Couperin, comprised of six movements, each dedicated to a close personal friend Ravel lost during the war.

The second half will include Elgar’s thrilling and popular Pomp and Circumstance March. The program will conclude with a tribute to the role that the United States played in the Armistice signing with two original compositions, Johnson’s own Rhapsody on “America the Beautiful” and the Horowitz transcription of Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever.”  Surely, this is a program not to be missed!

Reservations recommended.
