Members of The Philadelphia Orchestra Perform at The Sembrich

Elizabeth Starr Masoudnia

Several members of The Philadelphia orchestra will present an evening of chamber music in the historic Sembrich Studio on Sunday, August 6 at 7 PM. This year’s program features a guest appearance by the orchestra’s English horn player, Elizabeth Starr Masoudnia for a performance of Jean Francaix’s captivating Quartet for English horn and strings. Also featured on the program are works by W.A. Mozart, Gustav Mahler, Florence Price, Johannes Brahms, and Ruth Gipps.

“This annual highlight of our summer festival is presented by violinist and Sembrich Board member Philip Kates with his colleagues from The Philadelphia Orchestra,” says Artistic Director Richard Wargo. “We are delighted to have these fine musicians at The Sembrich to illuminate beloved classics and several lesser-known gems from the chamber music repertoire.”

Solo English hornist of The Philadelphia Orchestra since 1995, Elizabeth Starr Masoudnia has toured the globe with the Orchestra to wide critical acclaim with many of the world's finest conductors. She has premiered several solo English horn pieces written expressly for her, including concertos by Behzad Ranjbaran and Nicholas Maw, and David Ludwig's Piccola musica notturna for English horn, harp, and string quintet.

A native of Philadelphia, Masoudnia is on the faculty of Temple University and the Philadelphia International Music Festival, where she teaches oboe and English horn and coaches chamber music.

Other members of The Philadelphia Orchestra performing on the concert are cellist John Koen, violinist Yu-Ting Chen, and violinist Philip Kates. Additional performers appearing on the program are pianist Michael Clement and baritone Caleb Eick.

This performance is generously sponsored by the Alfred Z. Solomon Charitable Trust.

Tickets are $50 and may be purchased via phone at (518) 644-2431 or online at TheSembrich.org/festival.
